It is an intelligent romantic comedy based in London in 1539. It tells the story of the struggles and Tribulations of William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes), a young writer who in the prime of life suffers major mental blockade, mainly caused by Lady Viola of Lessex (Gwyneth Paltrow), woman of the who falls madly in love. Love, despite being reciprocated, is impossible, since Viola is already engaged to another man. Viola, who besides William, loves the theatre desperately, disguises himself as an actor (since at this time the women could not act in the theatre) and performs the test to enter the leading role in the last work of Shakespeare. This one at first does not know, but later it ends up realising. Then, both will live passionately all kinds of moments and situations, from the most comic to the most dramatic, passing that by moments of extreme romanticism.
